Hey friend! I’m back! I realized it has been awhile since we’ve chatted. I’ve been working and studying and dreaming. I really enjoy connecting with you through this blog. I hope you do too.
It is said that this week is the week of LOVE.
Flower shops are running crazy getting those red roses out. Chocolate covered strawberries are ready at Costco. The pizza joint will be offering heart-shaped pizza. And now I hear that Chick-fil-A offers a heart-shaped box of their chicken nuggets? What?!? While this week is all about love and romance and chocolate and wine, love is so much more than red roses, valentine cards, conversation hearts, and my fave, heart-shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. There is a greater love, girlfriend. As you plan your Galentine party with your BFF’s or that romantic dinner with your loved one, I want you to know you are loved with a deeper love. This is love for YOU and a love to be demonstrated through you.
A little note about a love that is eternal. A love is that never ending. A love that is never failing. A love that doesn’t require the once-a-year Valentine’s Day biz. A love that doesn’t let you down. This love doesn’t cancel plans at the last minute. This love doesn’t get your hopes up, only to pull the rug out from under you. Love is God’s idea, my friend, because HE is love. I’ve been studying 1 John, chapter 4 and this, my friends, is all about love. THE Love. God is love and God does love. We love others– our boyfriends, our husbands, our families, our friends–because He loved us first. He loved YOU first and he loves you MOST. Let him be your forever Valentine.
John, the author of 1 John, was Jesus’ good friend, the “beloved disciple.” And you know what? You are God’s “Beloved” too. God’s love for you was revealed when “he sent his one and only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.” John goes on to say that “Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.” This is something real y’all. I have 4 children and I love them but not sure I could let them die for me, or that I would give them up to die for the world. This is true love. Can you say that you love others with this same kind of love?
No matter the stage of life you’re in right now, no matter your marital status, YOU ARE LOVED! A love beyond all loves. Jesus got up on that cross for you and for me. It’s unthinkable. It’s unimaginable. I am just blown away by this sacrifice. This love. How about you? This kinda love, is how God wants us to love others. This love, is not a one-and-done love. God didn’t say, “Ok, so that’s done,” rubbing the dust off his hands, moving onto the next thing. No, he gave his Spirit to you, to be with you, and as you love others in this way, God’s love is made complete in you. His love is being perfected in you and in me. He’s perfecting his love in us as we love others.
God calls us his BELOVED. He calls us esteemed, dear, his favorite. He tells us we are worthy of love. He calls us to BE LOVE. We are to be love for others. How can you be love to those in your circle? To your spouse? Being is living. How are you living out this love that is dwelling in you, that God planted in your soul? And you, darling, are to BE LOVED. Allow yourself to get into God’s Word, to learn about this God that gave up his one and only son, for you. Allow yourself to be loved by those in your circle. Go to the Galentine gathering. Know that God is head over heels in love with you, even if you happen to find yourself at home alone this Valentine’s Day with a heart-shaped pizza for your party of one. Go and BE Love for others. You do the inviting. You do the loving.
The balloons and flowers and sweet treats are fun this time of year. I’m a fan as well. But I want to be a gal that loves beyond February 14. Like Buzz Lightyear would say, “To infinity and beyond.” Because this is how God loves us. I need to know and believe that I’m loved in this big way in my times of loneliness or the times that I struggle with FOMO (fear of missing out). I need to improve on BEING LOVE for my loved ones and my tribe, when anxiety and fear want to hold me back, because this love, is perfect, driving out fear. This perfect love throat-punches the enemy when he tries to bring his lies about what love is or what love should be.
Like the song above says. God looks at you and says, “My Beloved, My Beautiful Daughter, I Love You So Much.” His love is very, very extraordinary, indeed. He loves you beyond anyone you could ever adore. He loves you today, tomorrow, always. His love is in you and for you. His love is meant to flow through you. Love begets love.I pray you come to know and to believe the love that God has for you. If you’d like to learn more, send me an email and we’ll chat.
